Colgate, 72-58 Snapping The Raiders Three-Game Winning Streak
WASHINGTON, D.C. – Glenn Stokes scored 19 points and Steven Miles added 18 points and nine rebounds to lead American University to a 72-58 Patriot League win over Colgate Saturday afternoon at Bender Arena. The Eagles (12-9, 6-2) snapped Colgate’s three-game winning streak as they maintain their hold on first place in the Patriot League. Colgate falls to 12-9 overall and 3-5 in the league. Other American players in double figures were Patrick Doctor and Vladimir Buscaglia with 10 points apiece. The Eagles shot 55 percent from the field including a blistering 54 percent from behind the arc as they hit on 8-of-15 3-pointers led by Miles with four. Mark Linebaugh led Colgate with 17 points, while freshman Keith Williams tallied a career-high 10 points. Pat Campolieta and Howard Blue had nine points each for the Raiders. Colgate held an early 16-10 lead, but with Campolieta, Linebaugh and Dave Hardy on the bench with two fouls apiece, the Eagles closed out the first half with a 23-8 run for a 33-24 advantage. In the second half, the closest Colgate came was five points with 17:32 remaining, 37-32. Foul trouble continued to hurt the Raiders as Blue fouled out with 8:05 remaining after picking up all five fouls in the second half. Blue was Colgate’s leading rebounder with eight. GAME NOTES – Campolieta with six assists moved into eighth place on Colgate’s all-time assist list with 226 … This was the first loss for the starting lineup of Campolieta, Hardy, Linebaugh, Blue and Bill Kern after three straight victories … Junior forward Tim Sullivan missed his second straight game with a sprained ankle. |
