Boxscore

HAMILTON, N.Y. – Pat Campolieta scored a game-high 22 points and grabbed seven rebounds to lead Colgate to a 73-65 win over Dartmouth Friday night at Cotterell Court.

The victory was Colgate’s (7-2) fifth straight win and gives the Raiders their best start since the 1971-72 campaign.

Also in double figures for Colgate were Martin Marek and Howard Blue with 12 apiece and Mark Linebaugh with 11.

Campolieta’s 22-point effort moved him into eighth place on the school’s all-time scoring list with 1,352 points.  It was the third time this season he has scored 20 or more points in a game.

Campolieta was 4-of-9 from the field and 14-of-15 from the charity stripe.

Flinder Boyd led Dartmouth (5-5) with 16 points and Charles Harris added 11 points for the Big Green.

“I thought our perimeter defense really stepped up in the second half,” said Colgate head coach Emmett Davis.  “I couldn’t be more delighted with our 7-2 start, especially the way we have accomplished it.  With hard work and unselfish play by the entire team.”

Colgate held an 11-8 lead in the first half before Dartmouth strung together three straight 3-pointers for a 17-11 advantage with 11:08 left in the half.  The Big Green was on top at halftime, 30-27.

In the second half, Colgate came out scoring the first seven points to take the lead 34-30 on a conventional three-point play by Campolieta and a pair of baskets by Linebaugh.  The Big Green came back to take a two-point advantage, 38-36, before Colgate went on an 11-3 run for a 47-41 lead which they never relinquished.  Blue’s four points led Colgate’s spurt.

Dartmouth was able to trim Colgate’s six-point advantage to two points with 13:06 left but the Raiders scored 13 of the next 16 points to ice the contest.  Marek tallied seven points during the run.

Colgate increased its advantage to as many as 14 points down the stretch on two occasions.  The Raiders outrebounded Dartmouth 42-26 paced by Campolieta and Tim Sullivan with seven apiece.

The Raiders will break for the Christmas before playing at Notre Dame on Dec. 30
