COLGATE WINS THIRD STRAIGHT
GAME WITH A 76-64 DECISION OVER HARVARD
December 8, 2001 CAMBRIDGE, MA – Tim Sullivan (Skaneateles, NY) scored a season-high 18 points and Pat Campolieta (Syracuse, NY) added 15 points and eight rebounds to lead Colgate to a 76-64 decision over Harvard at the Lavietes Pavilion. Colgate (5-2) has won three straight games as the Raiders are enjoying their best start since the 1992-93 campaign. It was Colgate’s fourth straight win over the Crimson (4-3) and 11th in 14 games. Also in double figures for Colgate were Dave Hardy (West Chester, PA) with 12 and Martin Marek (Benesov, Czech Republic) with 10. Harvard was paced by Patrick Harvey with 17. After Harvard scored the opening basket of the contest, Colgate went on a 10-3 run to open a five-point advantage and never looked back. Mark Linebaugh (Cleona, PA) led the Colgate outburst with five points. The Raiders increased their lead to 13 points, 30-17, when Sullivan nailed a 3-pointer with 7:10 left in the first half. Harvard’s five straight points to wrap up the first half, left the Crimson trailing 36-29 at intermission. In the second half, Harvard cut Colgate’s lead to five points with 17:27 remaining, 40-35, but the Raiders responded with five straight points to open a double-digit lead again. Colgate upped its advantage to 55-41 before the Crimson made one final attempt to catch up with a 10-2 run to trail 57-51 with 6:01 left. The Raiders, however, answered the challenge outscoring Harvard 10-2 to put the game away as they held a 67-51 lead with 3:39 remaining. Campolieta and Hardy had four points apiece in the spurt. Colgate outrebounded the Crimson, 30-26, led by Campolieta with eight and Sullivan with five. The Raiders will break over the next 10 days for final exams before resuming action on Dec. 18 at home against Hobart College. GAME NOTES: Linebaugh injured his ankle with two minutes left in the first half, and played only briefly in the second stanza. He finished with eight points and three rebounds ... senior guard Devin Tuohey (Washington, DC) gave the Raiders a nice spark off the bench with seven points. |
