SYRACUSE PULLS AWAY IN THE
SECOND HALF FOR A 70-51 WIN OVER COLGATE

SYRACUSE, N.Y. -- Kueth Duany
scored a game-high 17 points and Preston Shumpert added 14 as the
undefeated and nationally-ranked Syracuse Orangemen defeated Colgate,
70-51, Tuesday night at the Carrier Dome.
Syracuse (6-0) has been the victor in the last 36
meetings between these Upstate New York foes with the Orangemen leading
the overall series, 109-46.
Colgate (2-2) was paced by Tim
Sullivan, Martin
Marek and Dave Hardy with eight
points apiece and Pat Campolieta with seven points before fouling out with
6:32 left in the game.
Sophomore Mark Linebaugh tallied five points for
the Raiders, while grabbing six rebounds, dishing out three assists and
making four steals.
Colgate opened the game with a six-point run before
Syracuse scored its first basket three minutes into the contest. SU
came back to take its first lead, 11-10, with 13:22 remaining on Jeremy
McNeil's dunk.
The Raiders' final lead came with 10:42 left in
the first half, when they held a one-point advantage, 16-15, after
Linebaugh nailed a three-pointer.
Syracuse pushed out to a 12-point lead
before Colgate cut the deficit to eight points at halftime, 32-24.
In the second half, the Orangemen again
extended the lead to 12 points, but Colgate came roaring back to within five
points, 40-35, on Howard Blue's
3-pointer with 14:15 remaining. Blue finished with five points and
six rebounds.
Syracuse then took control with a 20-4 run for a
21-point lead with 6:32 left. The closest Colgate came was 16 points
on Matt Shirley's dunk with 4:16 remaining.
The Raiders will be back in action on Saturday
night, when they travel to Ithaca, New York to meet the Big Red of
Cornell. Tip-off is 7 p.m.

Linebaugh's four steals was a career-high ... Freshman Keith Williams
scored his first varsity points ... Shirley's four points equalled his
