BOWMAN OUT WITH FRACTURED LEG FOR FIVE TO SIX WEEKS

HAMILTON, N.Y. – The Colgate University football team has lost the services of starting strong safety Phil Bowman with a broken fibula in his left leg. Bowman was injured in the second quarter of Colgate's opener against the University of Connecticut on Saturday while returning a kickoff.

The 5-foot-11, 190-pound junior, made one tackle, broke up one pass and returned two kickoffs for 53 yards before leaving the game. He also tossed a 28-yard pass for a first down on a fake punt in the first quarter.

Bowman is a two-year letterwinner for the Red Raiders who had 39 tackles last season in addition to two interceptions, eight pass breakups and two quarterback hurries.

Freshman Sean McCune, younger brother of Colgate's starting quarterback Tom McCune, is listed as Bowman's replacement in the starting lineup for this Saturday's road game at Dartmouth.
