HOAIRE, HOUSTON AND JOSEPH ELECTED TRI-CAPTAINS OF COLGATE FOOTBALL

-- Colgate University head football coach Dick Biddle has announced the election of senior tight end Barry HoAire (De Paul HS/Fairfield, NJ), senior nose tackle Alex Houston (Bensalem HS/Trevose, PA) and senior tailback Randall Joseph (Brooklyn Tech/Wyoming Seminary/Brooklyn, NY) as tri-captains of the 2000 Red Raider squad.

HoAire (6-5, 239) has earned three varsity letters for the Red Raiders, one at tight end and two at defensive end. Last fall, he played in all 12 games with seven starting assignments. He had 10 receptions for 140 yards and one touchdown.

Houston (6-3, 241) was named first team preseason All-America by The Sports Network. He has earned two varsity letters and last season was first team all-Patriot League. He started 11 games making 34 tackles including eight TFL’s, five quarterback sacks, caused three fumbles, recovered one fumble, broke up one pass and had a team-high 29 quarterback hurries.

Joseph (5-8, 198) is the preseason Patriot League Player of the Year. He enters his final collegiate season seventh on Colgate’s all-time rushing chart with 2,381 yards. Last season he led the Patriot League in rushing with 1,446 yards in nine games. His 160.7 yards per game was the third best in Division I-AA.

Colgate opens its 2000 season on Saturday at the University of Connecticut. Kickoff is 7 p.m. at Memorial Stadium.
