COLGATE RALLIES FOR 24-21 WIN OVER BUCKNELL IN SEASON FINALE

                HAMILTON, N.Y. – Senior tight end Barry HoAire caught a six-yard touchdown pass with 1:05 remaining to lift Colgate to a come-from-behind 24-21 win over Bucknell in the season finale at Christy Mathewson-Memorial Stadium.

                The Red Raiders finished their campaign with a 7-4 overall mark and 4-2 in the Patriot League.  Bucknell ends its season 6-5 overall and 2-4 in league play.

                Bucknell had taken a 21-17 lead with 5:20 left in the contest on Kyle Harris’ 29-yard touchdown reception from Lucas Phillips.  Colgate took over the ball on its own 23-yard line following the kickoff with 5:12 remaining.

                Sophomore quarterback Rob Markert, who started his first collegiate game, moved the Red Raiders down the field with running help from Randall Joseph.  A 13-yard rush by Joseph on third-and-three to the Bucknell five-yard line put the Red Raiders in excellent position with first-and-goal.  Two plays later, Markert found HoAire wide open in the end zone for the winning score.  HoAire had seven catches this season with four for touchdowns.

                Joseph was the leading rusher in the game with 38 carries for 192 yards and one touchdown.  He finished his career with the Red Raiders with 3,218 yards.

                Colgate took a 3-0 lead in the first quarter on Russ Abrams’ 27-yard field goal before Bucknell scored on Jabu Powell’s 33-yard run.  In the second quarter, the Red Raiders scored on Joseph’s 49-yard run for a 10-7 halftime advantage.

                Colgate increased its lead to 17-7 in the third quarter on a 21-yard pass play from Markert to split end Jason Mattes, before Powell scored his second TD on a 12-yard run to move bring Bucknell to within three points 17-14.

                Colgate had 335 yards of  total offense while Bucknell produced 281 yards of offense.

                Markert completed 11 of 19 passes for 142 yards and two touchdowns, while Mattes finished with five receptions for 69 yards.  Joe Parker had three catches for 49 yards to move him over 1,000 yards receiving in a career.
