LEHIGH RALLIES FOR 20-14 WIN OVER COLGATE TO REMAIN UNDEFEATED

BETHLEHEM, PA -- Phil Pleasant rushed for 128 yards and one touchdown to lead undefeated Lehigh to a come-from-behind 20-14 win over Colgate before 13,316 fans at Goodman Stadium.

Lehigh is 9-0 overall and 4-0 in the Patriot League and is in full control of its own destiny in the race for the Patriot League championship. The Mountain Hawks with one victory in their remaining two games against Fordham and Lafayette will clinch the title. Colgate (6-3, 3-1) will have to wins its remaining two games (Holy Cross and at Bucknell) while hoping for Lehigh to drop both of its games for a shot at the title.

Colgate came out with a rush taking a 14-0 lead in the first quarter. Taking the opening kickoff, the Red Raiders marched 77 yards in 10 plays with tailback Eugene Kendrick scoring on a one-yard run. Russ Abrams kicked the extra point. The big play in the drive was a 38-yard pass play from Josh Kirklin to Joe Parker to the Lehigh 31-yard line.

After stopping Lehigh on its first possession, the Red Raiders struck quickly for their second touchdown driving 71 yards in four plays for the score. A 29-yard pass play to wideout Ryan Ojeda got the drive underway to the Lehigh 42. Three plays later, Kirklin hit tight end Barry HoAire with a 21-yard touchdown pass to give the Red Raiders a 14-0 lead. HoAire was six catches this season with three for touchdowns.

Lehigh scored its first points with 5:10 remaining in the first half after coming up with an interception deep in its own territory. The Mountain Hawks drove to the Colgate 13-yard line where they settled for a 29-yard field goal by Brian Kelley.

On its next possession, Lehigh needed only two plays for its first touchdown of the game. Taking over on the 50-yard line, Pleasant carried 14 yards before Brant Hall connected with Josh Snyder for a 36-yard touchdown pass. Colgate lead at the half, 14-10.

In the third quarter, Lehigh scored its winning points on a Pleasant's 21-yard run and Kelly's 31-yard field goal.

Randall Joseph was Colgate's leading rusher with 107 yards to move into third place on Colgate's all-time rushing list with 2,962 yards. Colgate had its eight-game winning streak in Patriot League play snapped while Lehigh won its 16th straight home game.
