| McCUNE LEADS COLGATE TO
21-6 WIN OVER FORDHAM (stats)
HAMILTON, N.Y.
Sophomore quarterback Tom McCune passed for 313
yards and two touchdowns and ran for one TD to
lead Colgate to a 21-6 win over Fordham at Andy
Kerr Stadium Saturday.
Colgate, 2-1 overall and 1-0 in the Patriot
League, won its second straight game while
Fordham falls to 1-3 overall and 0-2 in league
play. It was Colgate's fifth straight win over
the Rams. Also Colgate has won 21 of its last 25
Patriot League games.
McCune, the leading passer in the Patriot
League, connected on 24-of-36 passes en route to
Colgate's best passing total since the 1998 game
at Navy.
Colgate opened the scoring with 1:47 remaining
in the first quarter, when McCune connected with
flanker Joe Parker on a six-yard pass play for a
7-0 lead. Russ Abrams added the extra point to
cap off the 10-yard drive in three plays. Parker
finished with eight catches for 93 yards.
Colgate took advantage of a bad snap on a Ram
punt giving the Red Raiders possession on the
Fordham 10.
Colgate upped its advantage to 14-0 earlier in
the second quarter, when McCune finished off a
71-yard drive in 11 plays with a 3-yard run to
paydirt. He has scored a rushing TD in each of
the first three games.
Fordham put its first points on the board with
6:11 remaining in the first half on Brian
Colsant's 37-yard field goal.
Colgate took a 21-3 lead into halftime after
McCune found split end Jamal Lamb in the end zone
on an 18-yard pass play on a third-and-17 with
1:07 left. Lamb finished with six catches for a
career-high 120 yards.
The only score of the second half came on
Colsant's 28-yard field goal with 6:32 left in
the third quarter.
Colgate had 341 yards of total offense (28
rushing 313 passing), while holding
Fordham to 197 yards (47 rushing 150
passing).
